Wambo Wind Farm

Project Location:

Queensland, Australia

Client Name:

Yurika

Project Description:

Our teams delivered underground electrical reticulation for the 506.2MW Wambo Wind Farm, located near Jandowae in Queensland’s Western Downs region.

The project included trenching, cable installation and associated electrical infrastructure across a 125km² site to connect 83 wind turbines. Delivered across two stages, the project required coordinated construction activities within a live agricultural environment while managing environmental constraints, road and waterway crossings, and ongoing stakeholder requirements.

The completed infrastructure forms a key part of one of Queensland's largest renewable energy developments.

Key Stats:

  • 506.2MW wind farm

  • 83 wind turbines connected

  • 147km of trenching completed

  • 441km of cable installed

  • 125km² project area

18 Months

Duration

Challenge

  • Delivering underground reticulation across a 125km² project area

  • Managing environmental constraints including EPBC-listed areas

  • Working within narrow construction corridors with multiple road and waterway crossings

  • Coordinating activities within a live agricultural environment and maintaining landowner access

  • Managing weather impacts while maintaining programme across staged delivery

Solution

  • Delivered works across multiple construction fronts with closely coordinated crews to maintain productivity across the site

  • Implemented environmental management controls, exclusion zones and monitoring procedures

  • Completed trenching and reinstatement works in environmentally sensitive areas under controlled conditions

  • Planned and executed road and waterway crossings while maintaining construction progress

  • Applied flexible scheduling and stakeholder engagement to manage programme and weather risks

Outcome

  • Underground electrical reticulation delivered to all 83 wind turbines

  • Infrastructure completed and prepared for energisation

  • Programme maintained despite environmental, access and weather challenges

  • Demonstrated capability to deliver large-scale renewable energy infrastructure projects safely and efficiently

  • Completed project supplies renewable energy to approximately 312,000 homes annually

  • Supports Queensland's target of 70% renewable energy generation by 2032
