Project Description:
Valmech, part of OCU Group, was appointed by Bring Energy to carry out repair works to a leaking section of the district heating network at Corporation Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, adjacent to the Helix development.
The works involved investigatory excavation to locate and expose the leak, followed by mechanical repair or replacement of the affected pipework. Delivered within a live, public-facing environment, the scheme required secure site segregation, controlled access, permit-managed isolations and careful excavation in a utility-dense corridor.

Established a secure working perimeter using Heras fencing and controlled pedestrian access points
Utilised a combination of mechanical excavation, hand digging and vacuum excavation to safely expose the leak
Incorporated flexible temporary works design to allow excavation support if ground conditions or depth requirements changed
Coordinated all repair activities with the client through formal isolation permits, ensuring safe drainage and re-pressurisation of the network
